Structure and Material Bangkok - Tim Williams

Those of you who were part of the Summer School back in July will remember Tim - he is doing the ATS remotely as he is teaching in Thailand. He will be joining us for the exhibition next summer. He has sent us his contribution for this next session - the link is below. Please watch it to get an idea of what he's been up to and add your comments.

ATS Art Exhibition

Artist Educators
ATS Exhibition
30 July - 3 September 2011
The New Art Gallery Walsall

For the past year, Artist Educators have been working with Birmingham City University, Ikon and The New Art Gallery Walsall on the Artist Teacher Scheme.  This exhibition is a work in progress as the participants move towards the end of the course.

All the Artist Educators have studied contemporary art exhibitions at our partner galleries and worked with established artists to inform their ongoing development.  Whilst working in education throughout mainly the West Midlands, the group have come together to explore and question contemporary art and continue to further develop their own work.

The exhibition features work by artists Claire Morgan, Emma Lacken, Julia Foster, Karen Waites, Kate Irving, Leigh Lovell, Lynn Sawyers, Nicola Coen, Rachel Benson, Su Singh.

Project
Using a variety of materials such as tape, wire, thread, paper, card, plastic etc. you are asked to respond to a particular site within the college.  This response may be antagonistic and can mean the imposition of an idea, which may come from a newspaper article that interests you, it might be illustrative or cartoon like in quality.  Or you ay decide to work more sympathetically to the site by considering and responding to the architectural elements such as tiles, walls, arches or other aspects such as light, atmosphere etc. creating a more abstracted work.  These approaches can be combined, but aim to make the work as imaginative and experimental as necessary.
